With Portrait Photography To Make Moments Last Forever ? Arts and ...

Speaking of portrait photography, it refers to the photographing of a person capturing his or her features, expressions, moods and to a certain extent the surroundings. The focus of a portrait is essentially on the face of the subject. Family portrait photography is what is generally referred to as a ?family photograph? where various family members are captured in different poses and settings.

The availability of affordable point and shoot digital cameras has ensured that every family is now able to capture their ?special? moments for posterity on their own but a trawl through the social networking sites or through some online albums will tell you how wrong amateur photographs can get even with the best of technology. You can read on to know more.

Professionals who specialize in the area of portrait photography are an assurance that the photographs for which they have been assigned will be exactly what you want. After all, portrait photographs are commissioned to mark special milestones in people?s lives such as baptism, the first birthday, beginning of school and of course graduation followed by other big days such as engagement, promotions and then retirement. These are all special moments to be cherished, treasured, shared and relived for a long time and the only way of doing this is through photographs.

Of course, you do have video filming, but let?s be honest, how many of us go back to the video recordings of the landmark moments of our lives? We prefer looking at the photographs, don?t we? Portraits of the older members of the family acquire a special significance and sentimental value when they are no longer with us and serve as reminders of the love and guidance that they provided in their lifetimes, hence it is important to have an experienced photographer take care of these important photos. Find a professional portrait photographer to meet your needs.

To continue in the same vein, whenever we have a family photograph taken by someone in the family, we usually notice a lot of flaws not to mention the missing family member who was behind the camera at the moment. Family gatherings are very special and emotional occasions which allow for a lot of beautiful moments to be captured on film. Once again, only a professional with experience in Family Portrait Photography can do justice to them. ?Posed? and ?Natural? moments are blended together by a professional photographer through adept handling of the camera and lighting to create an evocative set of family photos to shared and framed and put up at home to be admired by relatives and friends. And as an added bonus, every member of the family gets to be in the picture!

To Move Or Not To Move?Again! ? Elder Care Solutions of MI

Often times when people help their parents with the decision to move to a more supportive environment they are uncertain about what level of care is needed, independent living, assisted living, memory care or a skilled nursing facility.? Often at the root of their indecision is the question as to whether or not someone will need to move again.? Is that something to avoid at all costs?? The answer to that question is tricky?particularly for people with dementia.

Moving is certainly disruptive to all of us, regardless of our age, but for older adults who may have some cognitive issues, a move can be very disorienting.? So that?s one vote against multiple moves.? Another consequence of making multiple moves the risk of waiting too long to make that next move to a memory care environment, when it can be much more challenging to learn your way around, make new friends etc.?

However, sometimes family members may feel that their parents aren?t ready for a memory care environment and could function quite well in an independent or assisted living environment, as long as they have meals provided, medication management available etc.? Even moving to a continuum of care retirement community doesn?t preclude the need to move again, only this time the move is on the same campus.? Nonetheless, the physical layout of the room is different, the staff is different, and fellow residents are different.

I may have muddied the waters more than offered clarity, but the bottom line is that it?s an individual decision.? Finances can also be a factor as well.? Generally speaking, the higher the level of care, the higher the costs.

If you are struggling to help someone make this kind of decision, contact a geriatric care manager, so they can help you come up with a plan tailored to your loved one?s strengths and individual needs.

Always planning,

Lynn

Stocks wobble as Europe holds off on stimulus

NEW YORK (AP) ? The stock market wobbled between small gains and losses in morning trading Thursday.

The Dow Jones industrial average was up 13 points at 13,047 as of 11:21 a.m. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose three points to 1,412 and the Nasdaq composite rose 17 points to 2,991.

Apple rose $10.40 to $549.19, a day after taking its worst fall in four years. In separate interviews, CEO Tim Cook said Apple will produce one of its existing lines of Mac computers in the United States next year and will spend $100 million in 2013 to shift production of the line from China.

Europe's Central bank cut its growth forecast for next year and left its benchmark interest rate unchanged. European unemployment continues to rise even though rates remain at record lows.

The U.S. Labor Department said unemployment benefits applications dropped 25,000 last week to 370,000, a level consistent with modest hiring. The decline was also a sign that the spike in applications caused by Superstorm Sandy has faded.

The report comes a day before the government releases its closely watched jobs survey. Private economists forecast that hiring in November sank sharply from the previous month. The unemployment rate is expected to remain unchanged at 7.9 percent. Some economists say the storm could cause the Labor Department's hiring figures to be much lower.

Among other stocks making big moves:

H&R Block jumped 4 percent after posting revenue and earnings that beat analysts' estimates. The country's largest tax preparation company reported a smaller loss, helped by cost-cutting efforts. It typically turns in a loss in the August-to-October period because it takes in most of its revenue during the U.S. tax season. H&R Block gained 77 cents to $18.14.

Men's Wearhouse dropped $1.49 to $29.86 after the men's clothing company's third-quarter results missed Wall Street's estimates. The company also cut its full-year and fourth-quarter profit forecasts.

Boeing fell 45 cents to $73.42. United Airlines said a failed electrical generator in one of its new Boeing 787s caused the plan to make an emergency landing in New Orleans, shortly after taking off from Houston.

In the market for U.S. government bonds, the yield on the 10-year note slipped to 1.57 percent. That's down from 1.59 percent late Wednesday.

For the month, the S&P 500 is down 0.5 percent and the Dow is up 0.1 percent. The Nasdaq has lost 1.2 percent.

Prepare Yourself for Brad and Angelina's Wedding

At last night's premiere for Killing Them Softly, the biopic in which Brad Pitt plays legendary soul singer Roberta Flack, the actor was asked about his engagement to underground actress Angelina Jolie, and while he said he didn't know exactly when they would get married, he anticipated that it would be soon. "The time is nigh," he said, staring up at the moon and feeling some dirt in his hands. He then knelt down and scattered some chicken bones on the ground. "It's soon," he murmured, sifting through the bones and clucking his tongue. "I got a good feeling about it." Well, OK, he was actually on a red carpet wearing a lot of leather, but he did in fact say those things. Still, some may sputter, what about the couple's promise to not wed until everyone can marry, meaning gay people and the gay people they love? Well, progress has been made, in four states quite recently, so maybe that's enough. And the kids have been pressuring them, and you can't disappoint children. It's just not fair. Whenever the couple does get married, well, hold on to your butts, because that is going to be a big goddarned deal. Sure they've already been together forever, but this is Brad and Angelina we're talking about. I'm pretty sure Shakespeare's ghost is invited to that wedding. I mean, real heavy hitters. Heads of state, billionaire philanthropists, Angelina's Hackers costar Matthew Lillard. Real big names here. So we've that to look forward to. It's "nigh." It's coming "soon." Listen to the whispers on the wind, poke at the tea leaves, watch the tides change and swirl in new directions. This thing is coming. Prepare ye. [People]

So there's this controversy right now about how the late Anna Nicole Smith's daughter, Dannielynn Birkhead, is now modeling for Guess, just like her mama, and people are worried that this means the child will head down the same dark path as her mother. Which, OK, I get. And I do get that children modeling is weird in general. But come on, guys. It's not that big of a deal. Plenty of kids go into their parents' professions. Sure they usually do it when they're a little older ? this child is 8 years old ? but still. It's probably fine. Though, admittedly, it is odd that her father, the hair-dyed weirdo Larry Birkhead, just went on Good Morning America to talk about the whole thing, and said that "my goal for her is for her to be a child and just do what all kids do." Because, um, all kids do not model for Guess jeans. That's not something that, really, most kids do! It's a pretty rare kid that models for anything, let alone Guess, and then let alone have their dads go on TV to talk about it. So let's just cut the crap on that one, Birkhead. It's not regular. It's definitely abnormal. But abnormal isn't always bad. Just keep her away from gross old men with lots of money and she might be OK. Or better yet, actually, screw it, don't have her model at all. OK, naysayers? Are ya happy? You're right. It's weird. Stop the whole thing. Shut it down. This ends here. [Us Weekly]

Some lady, a mom, is suing teen demigod Justin Bieber for millions of dollars because she apparently suffered hearing loss at one of his concerts. Yeah, those things can get pretty shrieky, and so this lady, name's Stacey Betts, is blaming the Biebs for her hearing problems and politely requesting 9.23 million dollars. She says that at a concert in 2010, Bieber whipped the crowd up into a frenzy, sending the girls into a shriek stampede, and that's when her ears exploded or whatever happened. Which, OK, maybe that did happen, but you buy the ticket for a Justin Bieber concert, you gotta accept the consequences, y'know? This isn't the Handel and Haydn Society. (Though, their Christmas Oratorio can get a bit wild.) Justin Bieber makes girls, and likely one in ten boys, scream their pimply faces off. That's as much of a part of Justin Bieber's innate being has his drop crotch pants or his stud earrings. So this Stacey Betts had to know that's what she was getting when she went to this ill-fated concert. I rule for the defendant on this one, though I am sorry to hear about the plaintiff's hearing loss. Maybe next time she'll wear earplugs. Or take her daughter somewhere quieter. [TMZ]

Yikes. Halle Berry and her current beau Olivier Martinez are trying to move, with Berry's four-year-old daughter Nahla, to Paris, partly because paparazzi laws are a lot stricter there. But Nahla's father, pretty French-Canadian model Gabriel Aubry, doesn't want that to happen, so there's been a legal fight, which, for the time being anyway, Berry just lost. But there was also an actual physical fight ,which, oof, Aubry lost something fierce. It seems there was a recent scuffle between Martinez and Aubry at Nahla's school, which later continued at Berry's home, and that left Aubry black and blue and bruised all over. Berry and Martinez claim that Aubry initiated it, while Aubry claims that Martinez threatened to kill him if Aubry didn't agree to also move to Paris. Which, wait, that's what this is about? "More to Paris!" "No! I will not move to the City of Light!" "Move to Paris and live in the Marais and eat wonderful bread all the time!" "NO, I will not move to the 6th and drink all the best wine and see beautiful things all the time! I will not." "Move to Paris!" "No!" And so on. Guys. It's Paris. Just everyone move to Paris. Olivier and Halle, do you want me to move to Paris? Because I will move to Paris. I'll move to Paris with Gabriel Aubry or not. Though, hm, I'd honestly prefer to do it with him. But whatever, that's beside the point. The point is, everyone just move to Paris. Paris is lovely! Way better than stinky old L.A., anyway. I don't see what the problem is here. [Us Weekly]

That's all. You can look at 'em if you want, or you can skip 'em. I say look at 'em, but that's up to you. What is not up to you is whether you're moving to Paris. You're moving to Paris because that's what everyone's doing so pack your bags and let's go. [Daily Mail]

And here are some pictures of Jennifer Lawrence and company filming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in Hawaii. A couple of things about these photos. 1) Nice suits, guys, really. Flattering for everyone. 2) OMG it's Lynn Cohen, aka Magda from Sex and the City and Golda Meir from Munich, in a wetsuit wielding some kind of trident. That's kind of amazing. Good for her. 3) The f-ck is Gale doing there? Do you see him, Liam Hemsworth? As far as I remember Gale is not in this part of the story. Are they changing things up on us? It looks to me like they are. And that's a big change. Maybe I'm misinterpreting these photos, but from the looks of it, they're putting Gale in the Games. Which is not what happens. Maybe this is just a practicing scene? That's possible, actually. But then what is Mags/Lynn Cohen doing there? A mystery. Anyone have any ideas? When you figure it out come look me up, I'll be near the Luxembourg Gardens, tending to Gabriel's wounds. [Daily Mail]

Singer Bjork's vocal cord surgery successful

LONDON (AP) ? Icelandic singer Bjork says she has had successful surgery to remove a vocal cord polyp.

The eccentric 47-year-old singer says on her official website that she had been trying to tackle the problem with exercises and diets since doctors first discovered the polyp, a benign growth on either one or both of the vocal cords, several years ago.

Bjork said that she decided to undergo laser surgery and it has worked, though she had to stay quiet for three weeks.

She wrote: "Surgery rocks! ... It's been very satisfying to sing all them clear notes again."

The singer apologized for cancelling various shows earlier this year, and that she looked forward to singing for her fans next year.

Last year Adele had minor surgery to remove a benign polyp.

Video: Installing a generator: Learn how with pro tips

>> to handle? ask lou .

>>> time for another installment of "ask lou " where viewers send in questions about the pesky household problems they don't know how to fix.

>> "today" contributor and host of the show "house smart" lou .

>> how do i get a disgusting smell out of my garbage disposal ?

>> i have a love/hate relationship but people use them as garbage cans . this is what's under the sink you don't see. this part is what you see, the part where the water goes down. i want you to take any cleaner, pine sol , simple green , spray a little down inside. take your poilt brush and go down inside here and scrub. what happens on the side wall, all that gunky smelly stuff. rinse, repeat. you'll be amazed how nice and fresh it smells. that's it.

>> does it help to put vinegar in there?

>> it would, but you have to scrub. everybody pours it and it's on the side. you've got to do the scrubbing.

>> janet has a question about her sump pump . how do we change our sump pump ? we had it since the builder installed it in 1996 .

>> a couple of numbers here. most sump pumps should be replaced every seven years. the switch, this is an example of one should be replaced every three. 1996 , you're getting your money's worth out of it.

>> people lose track.

>> absolutely. it unplugs. this is similar to what it looks like. this is the pipe coming out. take the screwdriver here and remove this from the check valve. then pull this out of the pit. then buy a new one. this pipe right here screws in. that's all it does. screws back in when you put the new one in. taking forever.

>> we like to watch you work.

>> hold on. you plug it back in, screw everything back together. you're done. a decent sump pump is going to cost you a couple of hundred dollars, but will protect your basement from flooding.

>> a lot of people need generators. how do you install these?

>> this is a portable generator. it's all about the wattage. this particular one is 3,000 watts. this will do things like a refrigerator, a few lights, maybe a pump. you need to remember the kinds of things you are powering, for instance, a refrigerator uses 600 watts when it runs. when it first starts, it uses 1,200 watts. that get up and go is key. notice i have this plug in wire right here. this is a separate breaker and feed off this generator nobody ever uses.

>> why?

>> they don't know this. they use these plugs here and like why can't i run more off my generator? getting a cord like this and plugging it in. you notice on the end i have a splitter where you can cut in more cords, you get the full maximum power can provide. needs to be 20 feet away from the house. it's never in an enclosed area. you need to keep it monitored. they also make them now that run on propane.

>> i was going to say if you don't have power, what is that running on?

>> gasoline. in the northeast, gas stations didn't have power.

>> how to keep woodpeckers away?

>> i learned this in florida. take fishing line , put a few nails on the outside of your cedar siding. if you go with lighter fishing line , you won't see it. the woodpeckers don't want to get tangled up in it.

>> who is smarter than lou ?

Report: Raters, regulators failed MF Global

(AP) ? A House panel says credit rating agencies and federal regulators contributed to MF Global's collapse last year. But it pinned most of the blame on ex-CEO Jon Corzine.

The report issued Thursday by the House Financial Services Oversight and Investigations subcommittee found Corzine's risky strategies caused the brokerage firm's failure. That largely reiterated a statement released Wednesday by the committee's Republicans.

The brokerage firm was forced to seek bankruptcy protection last year, the eighth largest in U.S. history. More than $1 billion in customer money went missing. Corzine, a former U.S. senator and governor of New Jersey, stepped down as CEO in November 2011.

Still, the House panel said in its report that rating agencies Moody's and Standard & Poor's failed to identify the biggest risk: MF Global's $6.3 billion bet on European countries' debt.

And it noted that the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission failed to share important information about the firm with each other. The two regulators have oversight authority for MF Global.

The SEC disagreed with the report's findings. It noted that it had shared a request for MF Global to increase its capital cushion against losses with the CFTC in August 2011.

"The report neglects to note that our staff in fact informed the CFTC staff," SEC spokesman John Nester said. He noted that CFTC General Counsel Dan Berkovitz testified at a subcommittee hearing that his agency had been told about the issue by the SEC.

CFTC Commissioner Jill Sommers, who is leading the agency's investigation of MF Global, and CFTC Chairman Gary Gensler both declined to comment on the subcommittee's report.

The report also said the Federal Reserve Bank of New York fell short of properly assessing the firm's level of risk before allowing it to join an elite group of firms that help the government sell Treasury securities. That endowed MF Global with a seal of financial strength and gave it a competitive edge.

"This marked the first time in the history of the U.S. futures industry that a customer suffered a loss due to the mishandling of customer funds," Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Ala., chairman of the full Financial Services Committee, said in a statement.

"These customers deserve to know how and why their money went missing. And all Americans deserve to know that regulators and policymakers are held accountable to prevent similar losses from ever occurring again," Bachus said.

Much of the money belonged to farmers, ranchers and other business owners. They bought and sold financial contracts with MF Global to reduce their risks from the fluctuating prices of corn, wheat and other commodities. In recent months, nearly 80 percent of those funds have been returned.

Republican members of the subcommittee said the panel's staff interviewed more than 50 witnesses and reviewed 243,000 documents from MF Global, former employees of the firm and federal regulators.

Corzine took the top job at MF Global after losing a bid for re-election as New Jersey governor in 2009.

On Wednesday, he disputed through a spokesman the allegations made by the Republican lawmakers. He said he "acted in good faith" at all times and rejected the claim that he ran the firm in an authoritarian manner.

Local shutterbugs share passion for phone photography ...

ABOUT THE PHOTOS: These photographs were chosen from nearly 200 entries submitted by readers. All pictures were taken on smartphones using a variety of camera apps. Members of the Times Free Press photo staff selected their favorites.

The origins of the phrase are muddled, but one of photography's most oft-repeated sayings is that the best camera you have is the one that's with you when you need it.

Increasingly, that device is no longer a dedicated camera but the ever more sophisticated optics housed in smartphones.

High-end digital single-lens reflex cameras allow photographers to change lenses for different kinds of shots. However, that added bulk makes them less useful for incidental photos than a camera that is only a pocket away, local amateur photographer Claire Wood wrote in an email.

"I usually prefer my iPhone/Instagram [app] photos over my big DSLR camera because these are the real snapshots of life," Wood said. "My phone is always with me, and I treasure these moments I capture with it."

Wood is part of a growing population of hobbyist shutterbugs taking advantage of the built-in photographic capabilities of smartphones.

According to a study released in September by technology firm Qualcomm, 94 percent of respondents said they use their mobile phones to take photos. Smartphones accounted for 27 percent of all photos taken in 2011, up 10 percent over 2010, according to a December 2011 study released by the NPD Group.

Taking over

The technology for capturing those photos also is increasing rapidly.

Camera phones began entering mass production in 2000. The first, Sharp's J-SH04, was released only in Japan and featured a camera with a 0.1-megapixel imaging sensor.

By comparison, most modern smartphones have at least a 5-megapixel sensor. Some, including the recently released Samsung Galaxy SIII and iPhone 5, have 8-megapixel cameras. Currently, the Nokia 808 Pureview, released this summer in Britain, features the most advanced mobile camera with a monstrous 41-megapixel sensor.

Easy access to mobile phones with more capable cameras has helped smartphones close the gap with dedicated point-and-shoot cameras.

In a March 15 story posted on Bloomberg.com, reports from Colorado-based research firm IHS showed that digital camera shipments for 2012 were expected to be 4.3 percent lower than in 2011. Smartphone shipments this year were expected to increase by 35 percent, according to the firm.

"The cellphone camera is becoming more accepted as the primary camera," said Pamela Tufegdzic, an IHC analyst, in the Bloomberg report. "Smartphones are cannibalizing the point-and-shoot, digital-still camera market."

Close at hand

Local hobby and professional photographers said that, although they currently lack the manual controls necessary to replace interchangeable lens cameras, instant access to smartphones makes them an important tool.

Bill Mueller, president of the Chattanooga Photographic Society, has been taking photos since he was a teenager and began seriously shooting five years ago. His primary camera is a Canon 5D Mark III, a DSLR that retails for about $2,000, but for documenting everyday life, he prefers the convenience of his iPhone 4S.

"If I'm out someplace and see something that strikes me, I take the phone out and take a picture of it," he said. "It's definitely replaced a point-and-shoot for me. Instead of throwing a little camera in your pocket, you always have your phone with you."

For years, Mueller said, mobile phone cameras were almost worthless for serious photography. Since the arrival in 2007 of the iPhone, seen by some as the world's first true smartphone, however, that opinion rapidly has changed.

Despite having only a quarter the resolution of the iPhone 5, the first-generation iPhone's 2-megapixel camera and large screen made it the first device to bridge the gap to dedicated equipment, said freelance photographer David Humber, 50.

"Before that, I didn't have anything I would even consider a camera," he said. "The iPhone was the first thing that was put in my hands that I could see some good, practical uses for."

The increasing quality of optics in smartphones combined with their constant connectivity to social-media services have made them the go-to device for documenting everyday life.

"I don't even take my camera anywhere anymore since I got my iPhone," said Wendy Sprague of Rossville in an email. "[The phone] takes way better pictures."

Social slideshow

Last summer, online photo sharing and social-media site Flickr reported that the iPhone was responsible for more uploads to the service than any other source, including DSLR and point-and-shoot cameras.

According to a Sept. 14 report by TechNewsDaily.com, smartphone-only photo editing and sharing service Instagram has 100 million registered users, about double its size after being purchased for $1 billion in April by Facebook. Of those users, about 7.3 million accessed the site daily in August, according to a Sept. 28 article in tablet-only newspaper The Daily.

Soli Photography co-owner and founder Meghan Campbell, 32, has been shooting weddings professionally for six years. Although her Nikon D700 DSLR is her professional equipment of choice, Campbell said her iPhone has become an indispensable tool for capturing her family life.

"We primarily document our whole life with our iPhone, which is crazy to think about," she said. "You have the opportunity to preserve an everyday memory and share those moments immediately with people through Instagram or Facebook or whatever.

"iPhone-ography is going to become its own accepted art form."

Most smartphone lenses lack optical zoom and don't provide access to manual controls enthusiasts said they require. However, some professionals are finding creative ways to push camera phones to their limits.

On Sept. 25, professional photographer and film director Chase Jarvis released "The Best Camera Is the One That's With You," a collection of his iPhone photographs.

"With it, I hope to underscore, and maybe legitimize, that an image can come from any camera, even a mobile phone," Jarvis said in a video preview of his book on Amazon.com. "Almost everyone in our culture these days has a camera. It's in your pocket and attached to your phone.

"You haven't given that thing credibility, and for me, it changed my life."

PHONE ADD-ONS

Unsatisfied with a smartphone's image quality close up or when shooting at a distance? There is a growing market of add-on lenses that provide a more versatile shooting experience. Available in fisheye, wide angle, macro and telephoto.

? PostaGram (www.Postagramapp.com): Via a free iOS or Android app, select images from an Instagram account or phone memory and send a customizable physical postcard to someone. The first one is free, and subsequent 'grams are 99 cents.

? StickyGram (www.StickyGram.com): Via the website, connect to an Instagram account and select nine images to be turned into 50-millimeter-square magnets. $15 per sheet of nine. Free worldwide shipping.

LIGHTEN UP

Smartphone cameras, especially iPhone models preceding the iPhone 5, are notorious for underperforming in low light. So what's an iPhoneographer to do? Local wedding photographer Meghan Campbell offers the following tips for shooting professional portraits in the dark.

? Borrow two iPhones in addition to the one being used to shoot.

? Put a flashlight app on them to create sustained light via the LED flash.

? Place the subject of the shot in front of you and use the second and third iPhone flashes to provide off-camera lighting.

? The flash on the iPhone tends to create a blue tint, so during editing, adjust the hue to warm up your shot.

Leave a Comment - Product Reviews: Baby, Pet, Furniture, Family ...

I love all things convenient. Especially when you have a baby, you?re strapped for time as it is. Any way you can cut corners allows you more time to spend with your family. My only rule is that I don?t like to compromise quality for convenience. If buying some prepared or easy from the store means that I?m giving my family processed ingredients that aren?t good for any of us, I will usually take that little bit of extra time to make something myself. When my son was a baby I tried the whole process of making my own baby food for him. I had the little food processor, freezing trays, etc. Man that was a disaster. It just seemed like more work than necessary so I opted to buy the organic baby food from the store and go with that. I wish NuturMe individual baby food packets had been available a few years ago because I would have jumped right on that bandwagon!

Organic dried fruits and vegetables are turned into a powder and placed into little individual packets. You can mix them with water to create baby food or you can use the powder and add it to foods for your toddler like macaroni and cheese or pizza sauce. It?s a great way to sneak in some extra vitamins and minerals without your picky little guy or girl knowing. I added a packet of the carrots to our pasta sauce one Sunday and nobody had any idea. It gave the sauce a little added sweetness but it tasted pretty much the same as it always does. The powder mixed in nicely without any clumping.

NuturMe powder baby food packets are so easy to keep in the pantry. They are easier to store than tons of those baby food jars and they?re super easy to take on the go or on a trip. You don?t have to worry about glass jars breaking and all you need is a little water to create the meal. Peas, sweet potatoes, squash, carrots and much much more are available. You can purchase a variety pack if you want to try a bunch of different kinds before buying a big box of one flavor.

$18 packets come in a box for $20 on http://nuturme.com. There are a bunch of different options available on the site that allows you to save money if you?re buying a few different flavors at once.

Facebook CEO's 'search' comments raise hopes, questions

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Facebook Inc Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg has fired a warning shot that threatens to ignite a battle to marry social networking with one of the most valuable areas of the technology industry: search.

Long dominated by Google Inc, the Web search market represents a "big opportunity" that Facebook is uniquely positioned to address, Zuckerberg said on Tuesday at a tech industry conference in San Francisco.

Zuckerberg's comments, the clearest signal that Facebook is eyeing one of the Internet's most lucrative markets at a time when its own advertising revenue growth rates are slowing, helped shore up the company's battered shares.

Facebook's stock, which had lost roughly 50 percent of its value through Tuesday since the company's May initial public offering, finished Wednesday's regular trading session up 7.7 percent at $20.93 -- the biggest one-day gain since Facebook began trading on Nasdaq.

The 28-year old CEO's first major public appearance since Facebook's IPO provided much-needed reassurance to Wall Street, as Zuckerberg highlighted progress in the company's mobile business and expressed confidence in Facebook's future money-making prospects.

But it was Zuckerberg's talk of search that had Wall Street analysts and technology insiders abuzz on Wednesday, even if they couldn't agree on what exactly a Facebook search service would look like or how imminent such a service was.

Facebook "might be the only company on earth that I think could truly go up against Google and win on the search side," said Gerry Campbell, who has been involved with Web search at various companies for more than ten years, including as an advisor to Summize, a search engine for Twitter messages that was acquired by Twitter in 2008.

Facebook doesn't need to create an index of every site on the Web, as Google does, to be a useful search engine, he said.

The massive amount of data that Facebook has about all the activity on its 955-million-user social network as well on external websites that feature its Like button represent a partial index of the Web that would be satisfying enough for most users, said Campbell, who is now CEO of tech consulting firm Frequency Group.

Bill Gross, who developed the search advertising business model that now underpins search businesses such as Google and Microsoft Corp, said much would depend on the scope of Facebook's ambitions.

"I don't think people care about ?social search' itself, but they do care about getting better search results," said Gross, the CEO of Idealab.

If Facebook can figure out how to use the information in its social network to provide consumers with better Web search results, the company could steal more market share "than just about anyone else," he said.

Google had 66.4 percent of the U.S. search market in August according to research firm comScore. Microsoft's Bing had 15.9 percent share and Yahoo Inc had 12.8 percent share.

PUTTING SOCIAL WITH SEARCH

Facebook currently offers a search feature that can help users find pages within its social network. And it has a partnership with Microsoft, whose Bing engine provides search results for external websites.

Google has been trying to combine social and search for the past year or so by integrating Google+ into its search engine. and Microsoft integrates certain Facebook results into its Bing search results.

Most of the one billion search queries a day that Facebook currently garners are for Facebook users looking to find other people on the world's No.1 social network, Zuckerberg said on Tuesday. But he said that a meaningful portion of the queries are also for businesses, brands and apps on Facebook.

Those queries represent an attractive opportunity for Facebook to develop a more full-featured search service, Zuckerberg explained.

"Facebook is really uniquely positioned to answer a lot of the questions that people have," Zuckerberg said, such as finding a good restaurant or learning more about a job opportunity.

"These are queries that you could potentially do with Facebook if we built out the system that you just couldn't do anywhere else, and at some point we'll do it," Zuckerberg said.

Zuckerberg didn't provide a specific timeframe for when Facebook would step up its search efforts. And he didn't address how such an endeavor would fit in with its partnership with Microsoft.

Representatives from Microsoft and Google declined to comment, Facebook did not immediately return a request for comment.

SOME SKEPTICAL

One skeptic of a full-fledged Facebook search engine is Citi analyst Mark Mahaney, who deems it "improbable."

"Search is an extremely complex, time-intensive, capital intensive endeavor with dramatic learning curve advantages," Mahaney said.

He said that until now Facebook has consistently indicated that it was not interested in going head-to-head with Google in search, and described Zuckerberg's comments on search as "odd" and "a little bit opportunistic."

"From a Wall Street perspective you have to have to have a little bit of a critical read on this and say ?When your stock's been trashed you tend to maybe talk about things to get the stock moving,'" said Mahaney.

Still, there are signs that Facebook is putting more effort into search. Last month, the company said it was testing a new advertising format that allows marketers to have their ads appear in the drop-down menu of Facebook's search box when users type in certain queries.

RBC Capital Markets analyst Andre Sequin believes Facebook's near-term priorities will be improving its mobile advertising business and its mobile applications.

But he said that search is one of the most valuable ways to monetize activity on the Web," and that Facebook has all the ingredients to create a powerful "suggestion engine."

"That could be very attractive to both the user and the products," said Sequin.

U.S. ambassador to Libya killed in attack: Libya official

BENGHAZI, Libya (Reuters) - The U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other embassy staff were killed in a rocket attack on their car, a Libyan official said, as they were rushed from a consular building stormed by militants denouncing a U.S.-made film insulting the Prophet Mohammad.

Gunmen had attacked and burned the U.S. consulate in the eastern city of Benghazi, a center of last year's uprising against Muammar Gaddafi, late on Tuesday evening, killing one U.S. consular official. The building was evacuated.

The Libyan official said the ambassador, Christopher Stevens, was being driven from the consulate building to a safer location when gunmen opened fire.

"The American ambassador and three staff members were killed when gunmen fired rockets at them," the official in Benghazi told Reuters.

There was no immediate comment from the State Department in Washington. U.S. ambassadors in such volatile countries are accompanied by tight security, usually travelling in well-protected convoys. Security officials will be considering whether the two attacks were coordinated.

Libyan deputy prime minister Mustafa Abu Shagour condemned the killing of the U.S. diplomats as a cowardly act.

The consular official had died after clashes between Libyan security forces and Islamist militants around the consulate building. Looters raided the empty compound and some onlookers took pictures after calm returned.

In neighboring Egypt, demonstrators had torn down an American flag and burned it during the protest. Some tried to raise a black flag with the words "There is no God but God, and Mohammad is his messenger", a Reuters witness said.

PORTRAYAL OF PROPHET

U.S. pastor Terry Jones, who had inflamed anger in the Muslim world in 2010 with plans to burn the Koran, said he had promoted "Innocence of Muslims", which U.S. media said was produced by an Israeli-American property developer; but clips of another film called "Mohammad, Prophet of Muslims", had been circulating for weeks before the protest.

That film portrayed Mohammad as a fool, a philanderer and a religious fake. In one clip posted on YouTube Mohammad was shown in a sexual act with a woman.

Jones, a pastor in Florida whose latest stunt fell on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, triggered riots in Afghanistan in 2010 with his threat to burn the Koran.

Many Muslims consider any depiction of the Prophet offensive and any depiction of him can cause outbursts of anger in the Islamic world and among Muslims in Europe.

Libya's interim government has struggled to impose its authority on a myriad of armed groups that have refused to lay down their weapons and often take the law into their own hands.

It was clearly overwhelmed by Tuesday night's attack on the consulate that preceded the assault on the ambassador.

"The Libyan security forces came under heavy fire and we were not prepared for the intensity of the attack," said Abdel-Monem Al-Hurr, spokesman for Libya's Supreme Security Committee.

In Benghazi, unidentified men had shot at the consulate buildings, while others threw handmade bombs into the compound, setting off small explosions.

LOOTED

On Wednesday morning, the compound stood empty, with passers-by freely walking in to take a look at the damage.

Walls were charred and a small fire burned inside one of the buildings. A small group of men was trying to extinguish the flames and three security men briefly surveyed the scene.

A Reuters reporter saw chairs, table and food lying alongside empty shells. Some blood stains could also be seen in front of one of the buildings. Three cars were torched.

The crowd of around 2,000 protesters in Cairo was a mixture of Islamists and teenage soccer fans known for fighting police and who played a part in the revolt that toppled Egypt's leader Hosni Mubarak last year.

The fortress-like U.S. mission is near Tahrir Square, where Egypt's uprising began and the scene of many protests since. Youths danced and chanted football songs. A Reuters reporter said they appeared to climb into the embassy compound almost as an afterthought.

"We sacrificed dozens and hundreds during the uprising for our dignity. The Prophet's dignity is more important to us and we are ready to sacrifice millions," said mosque preacher Mohamed Abu Gabal who joined the protest.

U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in a statement late on Tuesday, confirmed the death of the U.S. consular diplomat in Libya, who was not identified, and condemned the attack there; but she made no mention of an attack on the Ambassador's car.

Japan`s Mitsubishi Estate's Domestic Bonds Get ... - Real Estate Japan

Credit rating agency, S&P has given Mitsubishi Estate Co. Ltd., an A+ long term debt rating for the 110 and 111 domestic senior unsecured bonds of ?the company.

Despite the weak condition of the office leasing market in Japan, Reuters said that the ratings given by S&P clearly show the company?s high quality assets, particularly those in Tokyo?s Marunouchi central business district. The company has also reported low average vacancy rate of all its assets.

Repair and improvement of the company?s buildings also helped increase the competitiveness of its portfolio and support the profitability of its building business. Aside from reconstruction of its buildings, recorded rents of the company have low vulnerability to economic cycles because of the strong credit quality of its tenants and because of the company?s way of dealing with other businesses.

S&P said that the profitability in the residential and commercial property development businesses of Mitsubishi Estate remains low, which is a key constraint on the company?s ratings. S&P adds that there could be profit improvement on the company?s commercial property development business. However, they expect it to be gradual because of the sluggish growth and performance of the real estate investment market in Japan. Another factor is the company?s level of debt, which is also expected to increase as the company plans to increase its investments in the next couple of years.

Garbage in garbage out: Google Fiber edition

Google?s getting aggressive trying to get sign ups for its $70-a-month gigabit broadband service it?s building on top of a fiber-to-the-home network in Kansas City. It has adjusted the numbers of homes in certain areas to make it easier for those neighborhoods to get Google Fiber.

After lackluster fiber registrations in certain Kansas City neighborhoods, Google has adjusted down the number of homes in certain neighborhoods eligible for the service. The search giant says it is lowering the number of homes in 73 of its designated ?fiberhoods,? because it had orginally collected bad data, but others wonder if this is an effort to goose signups so it looks like a greater percentage of homes are signing up for Google?s pioneering gigabit broadband service.

In a blog post Friday, Google?s Kevin Lo wrote:

Our build-by-demand model is unique. It will keep our prices low by using efficient networking and construction processes. And, in order to make it work, we need accurate data to define the number of residential addresses in each fiberhood. Since we were hearing some concerns about pre-registration goals, we sent our street teams back out into Kansas City, Kan. and Kansas City, Mo. to figure out what changes we needed to make.

Lo explains that vacant lots, abandoned homes and miscounted apartments all contributed to the problem of over representing the number of homes in some areas. While this is likely true, it?s somewhat amazing that a company that is sending a specially designed tricycle to bring its StreetView product to the Arctic Circle can?t gather accurate data tied to what analysts estimate is a $500 million investment.

If it is the case that Google is having to play some sort of game with the number of homes in order to get the appearance of more signups it?s only a PR victory ? its economic model for deploying fiber to large numbers of homes at one time is one of the things helping it keep its costs down.

But maybe a PR victory is all Google needs. After all, if people in areas that are close to hitting that magic we-get-fiber point feel like their pre-registration could tip things over the edge, maybe they?d be more likely to shell out the $10 to pre-register and sign up. Regardless, Google already has signed up a significant number of fiberhoods so far, and has until Sept. 9 to entice even more residents to get a gigabit.
